Topic: "The Christian Faces Anti-Values"
Text: 2 Timothy 2:14-18
14. Remember these things, imploring before God to avoid quarreling over words, which only serve to the destruction of those who hear. 15. Do your best to present yourself approved to God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16. Avoid vain and profane babblings, for those who speak them will grow deeper and deeper into ungodliness, and their speech will eat away like gangrene. 17. Among these are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18. who have turned away from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened, and who overthrow the faith of some.
Let us remember:
Antivalues are characterized by useless, foolish disputes. Disputes about words, genealogies, edible and inedible foods, genders and numbers, disputes about saints… all kinds of vain and empty disputes are a waste of time and energy. This kind of antivalues only serve to ruin those who listen. They disorient the peaceful children of God. Let us instead focus on spreading divine graces by preaching the Word of life. Let us go to those who have not yet received Jesus in their lives. There is a multitude who do not know what to do to please God, let us go to their aid. Let us avoid vain and profane speeches; because those who hold them will always advance further in impiety, and their word will eat away like gangrene. Impiety is an antivalue that distances us from the face of God and even from that of humans. Let us not be like Hymenaeus and Philetus, who were once zealous and equipped for the service of God, but have become everyone’s puzzle. They had left the good side to switch to the absurd side of life, where there are blasphemies, sacrileges and all the anti-values. Those who turn away from the truth are worse than pagans because they had known Christ and abandoned him. Let us not forget that anti-values destroy our faith, they destroy our families, our congregations and even our continents. Excellent Friday and good start to the weekend. Amen
