Topic: "The Benefits of God's Word"
Text: Hebrews 4:6-12
6. Now since it is still reserved for some to enter, and those to whom the promise was first made did not enter because of disobedience, 7. God has again appointed a day today, saying in David after so many years, as it is said above: To day if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8. For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. 9. Therefore there is a sabbath rest reserved for the people of God. 10. For he who has entered into God's rest has also ceased from his works, just as God did from his. 11. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one falls by following the same example of disobedience. 12. For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Let us remember:
Indeed, no creature is hidden from the sight of God and his Word, but all things are naked and exposed to the eyes of God. Since he sees us, since he knows everything, since he is everywhere at the same time, since he is almighty; let us not harden our hearts when God speaks to us through his Word. The Word of God is a trumpet or an alarm that awakens us from our sleep of doubt and disobedience. Today, now as you read this message, you hear his voice. Be careful, do not harden your hearts. This is a benefit of the Word, it awakens us and pushes us to make a good decision. The Word of God directs us towards salvation. It forbids us to put off until tomorrow what we can do today. The Word of God has a benefit that forbids us from procrastination. Tomorrow belongs to God, let us behave well as if today were our last day. The Word of God grants us a very great benefit, in this case, entry into eternal rest, into the kingdom of God. Yes it is written: "he who believes and is baptized will be saved. But he who does not believe will be condemned" (Mark 16:16). This secret is revealed in the Word of God. It is the only greatest wealth in the world that is not a hidden secret. The Word of God gives us the benefit of discovering the source of blessing and eternal rest. The other benefit of the Word: it is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the feelings and thoughts of the heart.
