Theme:The appearances of Jesus after his resurrection Text: Luke 24:13-32

13. And behold, that same day two disciples were going to a village called Emmaus, which was sixty furlongs from Jerusalem; 14. and they talked about everything that had happened. 15. While they were talking and arguing, Jesus approached and walked with them. 16. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17. He said to them, What are you talking about as you walk, that you are sad? 18. One of them, named Cleopas, answered him, Are you the only one who, sojourning in Jerusalem, does not know what has happened there these days? - 19. What? he told them. -And they answered him, What happened concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deeds and in word before God and before all the people, 20. and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to condemned him to death and crucified him. 21. We hoped that it would be he who would deliver Israel; but with all this, this is the third day that these things have happened. 22. It is true that some women among us have greatly astonished us; having gone very early in the morning to the sepulcher 23. and not having found his body, they came to say that angels appeared to them and announced that he is alive. 24. Some of those who were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it as the women had said; but him they did not see. 25. Then Jesus said unto them, O foolish, slow-hearted men to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26. Was it not necessary for Christ to suffer these things, and enter into his glory? 27. And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them in all the scriptures what concerned him. 28. When they were near the village they were going to, he seemed to want to go further. 29. But they urged him, saying, Stay with us, for the evening is drawing near, the day is fading. And he went in, to stay with them. 30. While he was at table with them, he took the bread; and, having given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to them. 31. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; but he disappeared from before them. 32. And they said one to another, Did not our hearts burn within us, when he spoke to us on the way and explained the scriptures to us?

Let's remember:

Jesus makes another appearance; this time it was to the disciples who were going to Emmaus, 60 stadia (12 km) from Jerusalem. Other old versions give 160 stadia (30 km). Whether it's 12 or 30 kilometers, it doesn't matter, history has recorded that Jesus Christ made a noble appearance to the walking disciples. Here is another proof of the happiness that Jesus gives us. It is written that Jesus approached and traveled with them. Important to know; when we walk, let's be sure that we are not alone, Jesus walks with us. To travel is to be together, this excludes the idea of distance. To refine this idea of closeness, the Bible tells us that "Jesus drew near." We know that Jesus could be far from them and speak to them from a distance; yet he chose to approach and journey with them. Another thing, Jesus asks them the reason for their sadness? The day is not well chosen to be sad because Jesus who walks with them is already risen. Why be sad? The veil of sin that covers our vision must be removed to recognize the presence of Jesus with us. Close to Him, traveling with Him, we will always be happy and reassured. At this appearance, Jesus taught them the true meaning of his mission so that they no longer had a false idea of him. Excellent Sunday. Amen Alain Louz.-
