Theme : " Return to a way of singing that pleases God and unleashes his power "
Text : Judges 5:1-15
1. On that day Deborah sang this song with Barak son of Abinoam: the Lord! 3. Kings, listen! Princes, give ear! I will sing, yes, I will sing to the Lord, I will sing to the Lord, the God of Israel. 4. O Lord! when you came out of Seir, when you went forth from the fields of Edom, the earth quaked, and the heavens melted away, And the clouds melted into waters; 5. The mountains shook before the LORD, This Sinai before the LORD, the God of Israel. 6. In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, In the days of Jael the roads were forsaken, And those who traveled took roundabout ways. 7. The leaders were without strength in Israel, without strength, When I arose, I, Deborah, When I arose as a mother in Israel. 8. He had chosen new gods: Then war was at the gates; Neither shield nor spear was seen Among forty thousand in Israel. 9. My heart is with the leaders of Israel, with those of the people who have shown themselves ready to fight. Bless the Lord! 10. You who ride white donkeys, You who have rugs for seats, And you who walk on the road, sing! 11. Let the archers with their voices, from the midst of the watering-places, Celebrate the blessings of the LORD, the blessings of his leader in Israel! Then the people of the Lord went down to the gates. 12. Wake up, wake up, Debora! Wake up, wake up, say a hymn! Arise, Barak, and lead away your captives, sons of Abinoam! 13. Then a remnant of the people triumphed over the mighty, the LORD gave me victory over the heroes……..
Let's remember:
To sing is to form with the voice a series of musical sounds (singing). And if this sequence of musical sounds is not coherent, we are accused of singing out of tune. All chanting is always aimed at a target; either a person or a deity… This is why the chant must obtain the approval of the target if any, the result will be null and void. When a song is addressed to the place of God, singing takes the form of celebrating, begging, adoring, thanking... Even when the song is addressed to the people of God, it always relies on the Head of the Church because he should never be excluded from the whole organization. God is therefore the object of our song. But the trap can close on the singer or on the group when this is not done in spirit and in truth. The most common example is when we see the celebrant take the place of the celebrated, wanting to take on the glory that belongs to God. Debora and Barak including the people, had seen fit to lift up their hearts and voices to God to acknowledge his prowess.
