Theme: “Obedience precedes divine blessings»
Text: 2 Kings 4:8-17
8. One day Elisha was passing through Shunem. There was a woman of distinction there, who urged him to accept food. And every time he passed by, he went to her house to eat. 9. She said to her husband: Behold, I know that this man who always passes by us is a holy man of God. 10. Let us make a small upper room with walls, and put there for him a bed, a table, a chair, and a candlestick, so that he may retire there when he comes to us. 11. Elisha, having returned to Shunem, retired to the upper room and slept there. 12. He said to Gehazi his servant: Call this Shunammite. Gehazi called her, and she stood before him. 13. And Elisha said unto Gehazi, Say unto him, Behold, thou hast shown us all this eagerness; what can we do for you? Should I speak for you to the king or to the chief of the army? She answered: I dwell among my people.14. And he said: What to do for her? Gehazi answered: But she has no son, and her husband is old. 15. And he said: Call her. Gehazi called her, and she came to the door. 16. Elisha said unto him, At this time next year thou shalt kiss a son. And she said: No! my lord, man of God, do not deceive your servant! 17. This woman became pregnant, and she bore a son at the same time, the following year, as Elisha had told her.
Let's remember:
The Shunammite woman had no intention behind her head when she wanted to do good to the prophet of the Lord. It was simply out of obedience to God who asks us to take care of his servants. When the thought of making an upper room for a servant of God fills a person's head; behind this thought there is the Spirit of God. One must be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit to perceive this message and obey. Let's understand that it is a question of building / modifying a part of the house to accommodate a passer-by with whom we have no family ties. Such unforeseen expenses can only be made if the call of God is pressing in the heart. We must therefore obey in order to enter into the will of God. What about the husband of the Shunammite? He did not object to his wife's request; no jealousy, no ulterior motive. He too yielded to the voice of God heard by his wife. A good servant of God is embarrassed not to bless a person who gives him gifts. He can't stay indifferent and pretend nothing has happened. Thus, the obedience of the couple gave birth to a child. Let us know how to unearth the hidden blessing in obedience. Excellent obedience Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
