Theme: “Lord, teach me to do your will” Text: Matthew 11:29
29. Take my yoke upon you and receive my instruction, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
Let's remember:
If we aspire to do God's will, we must start with the fundamentals. We must first dispossess ourselves of our will in order to be sure that we are capable of doing God's will. Our will pushes us towards an inordinate ego. This world promotes individual freedoms as the foundation of the charter of human rights so defended by the United Nations. However, individual freedoms are a trap for the Christian who does not have the capacity to place them in a precise framework and without confusion. Anyone who wants to do God's will must learn to find true freedom from Him. The freedoms of this world have only led us towards libertinage. If the decision-makers of this world could make a commitment to put God in control of humanity, the world would do God's will at all times. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” The rest that Jesus speaks of consists of doing his will. Whoever does the will of God lives under his rest. This is also what he calls his yoke. We know that the word yoke seems restrictive; but in God, the yoke is a rest because it is God who does all the work and the Christian is dependent on Him. This is called the will of God. Taking his yoke and receiving his instructions is therefore doing the will of God. It’s about depending totally on God, leaving everything to him; to follow him; to live for Him. It is also leaving our ego behind and letting it fill our heart with its presence. When the wind of God carries us towards a direction that brings joy; it is that we do his will. Let us love God, bear his yoke and receive his instructions; it is then that he will teach us to do his will. Excellent Saturday. Amen Alain Louz.-
