Theme : " Living the Protestant ethic in our families "
Text : Exodus 20:12-17
12. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. 13. Thou shalt not kill. 14. Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15. Thou shalt not steal. 16. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house; thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.
Let's remember:
The decalogue which is described here in this biblical text represents the framework of the faith and therefore of the Protestant ethics. It draws its foundation on love for God and love for our neighbour. This is only a small sample but it encompasses all the other commandments not described by God. The Protestant ethic wants that within our families reigns the respect for the parents in order to have a long life. This law is the only one followed by a promise. Within a family that loves God, one cannot imagine killing one's neighbour, nor killing one's projects, nor killing one's faith, nor killing one's gifts. Before God, and in relation to the Protestant ethic, it is not permitted to commit adultery, to steal, to lie or even to covet what is another's. Directly or indirectly; by omission or by commission, no exception is tolerated. In Protestant ethics, God calls us to sanctification. It is in this that we must recognize a Christian of Protestant ethics. Excellent Friday and good start into the weekend. Amen Alain Louz.-
