Theme: “Let your actions be in accordance with the Word of God”
Text: Ephesians 4:17-24
17. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the vanity of their minds. 18. Having their understanding darkened, they are alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart. 19. And having passed away from all feeling, they have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work every kind of impurity with covetousness. 20. But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21. if indeed you have heard him and have been taught in him, in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus, that you should put off, 22. in view of the former conduct, the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23. and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24. and put on the new man, which according to God is created in righteousness and holiness that produces the truth.
Let us remember:
Our actions must determine our dearly acquired identity in Jesus. The Lord Jesus paid a great price for our freedom. It would be deplorable if, after such a sacrifice, the redeemed of God were to walk foolishly, trampling underfoot the suffering of Jesus Christ. We must no longer walk like the pagans, who walk according to the vanity of their thoughts. The separation must be clear and without shadow. We must keep the holiness of God in order to be pleasing to Him. Our intelligence must be enlightened by the Word of God; coupled with strict discernment. Let us not be strangers to the life of God; because if ignorance characterizes us, we will go astray. Let us avoid falling into hardness of heart. This would be of no benefit to us. Let us rather be receptive to the word of God in order to synchronize it with our actions. The Christian can lose all feeling to indulge in dissolution and commit all kinds of impurity combined with greed. This is almost not visible at first because blindness disconnects discernment, self-control, lucidity, coherence, consistency in ideas… Blindness stifles the voice of the Holy Spirit while amplifying the desires of the flesh. Let us put off the old man who is corrupted by deceitful lusts, and let us put on the new man, created according to God in righteousness and holiness that produces truth. Excellent Sunday. Amen
