Topic: “Let Us Test All Things for the Glory of God”
Text: Acts 20:28-32
28. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves shall come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30. and of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31. Watch therefore, remembering that for three years I ceased not to exhort every one of you night and day with tears. 32. And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, who is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
Let us remember:
The apostle Paul was calling the attention of the elders of the Church based in Ephesus. In this farewell speech, Paul told them to be extra vigilant so that the ravening wolves would not destroy God's sheep. He told them to take heed to themselves and to the flock of God, over which the Holy Spirit had made them bishops. He did not want others to come and shepherd the Church of the Lord, which he had purchased with his own blood. He preferred that this be done by the elders living in Ephesus. These had the rigor to examine all things, they were at the service of the flock of God. Paul knew that after his departure, cruel wolves would enter among them who would not spare the flock. He also knew that from among them men would arise who would teach pernicious things, to draw away the disciples after them. As a good shepherd, Paul marked out the terrain of this Community to guarantee their spiritual survival. Here, Paul examined all things that would disrupt the organization for which he suffered chains and all kinds of tribulations for three years. We can examine all things spiritually according to the vision received from God. He transmits to them this capacity to examine all things to come in order to block the way of the wolves. He asks them to always watch without tiring. We too, watch and intercept the false messengers. Excellent Saturday. Amen
