Topic: “Let Us Prepare the Way of the Lord”
Text: Isaiah 35:1-10
1. The wilderness and the desert shall rejoice; the desert shall be glad, and blossom like a daffodil; 2. It shall blossom, and rejoice, with singing and shouting; the glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God. 3. Strengthen the hands that hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees; 4. Say to those who are troubled in heart, Be of good cheer, and do not fear; behold your God; vengeance will come, the recompense of God; he himself will come and save you. 5. Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped; 6. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will sing for joy. For waters will burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7. The mirage will become a pool, and the dry ground springs of water; in the lair of jackals, reeds and rushes will grow. 8. There will be a path there, a highway, which will be called the holy way; no unclean person will pass by it; it will be for them alone; no fools who follow it will be able to go astray. 9. On this road there will be no lion; no wild beast will take it, no one will be found there; the redeemed will walk on it. 10. The redeemed of the Lord will return, They will come to Zion with songs of triumph, And everlasting joy will crown their heads; Gladness and joy will approach, Pain and sighing will flee away.
Let us remember:
Isaiah chapter 35 tells us about the deliverance and return of Israel home. After long years of captivity, God sounds the death knell of suffering. Long live freedom, deliverance and the return to the holy land. We were lost, carried by every wind of doctrines, pressed here and there, struggles outside, fears within, living without God. We were prey to the desires of the flesh, we ran after worldly desires. Obedient one day, rebellious the next. One day on the path of God, the other day in the nightmarish practices of Satan the devil. This ambivalence made us lukewarm Christians. Today, we are told to prepare the way of the Lord. Despite our wanderings, let us prepare the way in the desert of our hearts. Let us take courage, let us not fear; the Lord Jesus is coming. He is coming to strengthen us and save us. Let us strengthen our languishing hands, strengthen our faltering knees; let us take the final momentum that would enable us to resist the harmful storms that drown our faith. Our future is very bright with glory, let us not miss it. Let us take the right path, the one traced by Jesus. He Himself is the path made, He is the holy way. On this road, no lion; no wild beast will take it, but we, the delivered, will walk on it. Excellent Thursday. Amen
