Theme: “Let us give thanks to God for his blessings”
Text: Luke 17:11-19
11. Jesus, on his way to Jerusalem, passed between Samaria and Galilee. 12. As he entered a village, ten lepers came to meet him. Standing at a distance, they lifted up their voices and said: 13. Jesus, Master, have mercy on us! 14. When he saw them, he said to them, Go and show yourselves to the priests. And while they were going there, it came to pass that they were healed. 15. One of them, seeing himself cured, retraced his steps, glorifying God aloud. 16. He fell on his face at the feet of Jesus, and gave him thanks. He was a Samaritan. 17. Jesus answering said, Were not the ten healed? And the other nine, where are they? 18. Has only this stranger been found to come back and give glory to God? 19. Then he said unto him, Arise, go; your faith has saved you.
Remember:
Even from a distance, it is possible to seek divine healing and receive healing. The lepers could not approach Jesus because of their impurity. In reality, lepers lived outside the city or far from healthy people. When a leper purified himself, only the priest had the mission of going to see his healing and giving permission to return to live among the people. This is why Jesus had sent these lepers to show themselves to the priest when it was the priest who had to make the trip to the lepers. On the way, noting their healing, they had more courage to go and show themselves to the priest in order to have the discharge of returning among the people. It was then that one of them favored thanksgiving before going to see the priest. And there he retraced his steps and approached to the feet of Jesus Christ, convinced that his healing was real. He proudly gave thanks for finding himself pure before a holy God. Let us go with our impurities to Jesus so that he may purify us and justify us. Then give thanks for all its blessings. The non-covenant Samaritan was grateful to God even though he is a “heathen”. Excellent Sunday. Amen Alain Louz.-
