Theme: "Joseph's youth and his faithfulness to God."

Text: Genesis 37:1-4

1. Jacob lived in the land of Canaan, where his father had stayed. 2. These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, seventeen years old, was tending the flock with his brothers; this child was with the sons of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph reported their evil words to their father. 3. Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he had had him in his old age; and he made him a coat of many colors. 4. His brothers saw that their father loved him more than all of them, and they hated him. They could not speak to him in friendship.

Let us remember:

Jacob had stayed in Canaan, where his father Isaac lived. He led a life that bore a great resemblance to that of his father. His father Isaac loved Esau his brother more than him. In turn, he himself loved Joseph his son more than his many other children. Between him and his brother Esau, there was a strong rivalry from the womb. Likewise, there was a strong rivalry between his other children and Joseph. At the age of 17, Joseph was a young shepherd. He was a shepherd of his father's flock. His other brothers did the same thing as him. Unlike him, Joseph was loyal to his father, he did not hide from him anything his brothers said. He was faithful to his father and did not allow himself to speak ill of his parents. This could make a difference with his father because he became his father's representative to his brothers. Jacob could not be indifferent to the good works of his son Joseph. He allowed himself to make him a multi-colored tunic which is proof of limitless attachment. Joseph was born when Jacob was advanced in years. Such an age is synonymous with sensitivity and laxity. Joseph lived his youth among brothers who thwarted and mistreated him. They humiliated him and mocked his dreams and words. They hated him but he did not hate them. He always loved them out of a duty of fidelity and fraternal solidarity. Joseph loved God and could not hate his brothers who did not love him. Excellent Thursday. Amen
