Theme: “Jesus is welcomed as King”
Text: Zechariah 9:9-12
9. Rejoice, daughter of Zion! Shout for joy, daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king comes to you; He is righteous and victorious, He is humble and riding on a donkey, On a donkey, the colt of a donkey. 10. I will destroy the chariots of Ephraim, and the horses of Jerusalem; And the war bows will be annihilated. He will proclaim peace to the nations, And he will rule from sea to sea, From the river to the ends of the earth. 11. And for you, because of your blood-sealed covenant, I will take your captives out of the pit where there is no water. 12. Return to the fortress, captives full of hope! Today again I declare it, I will return to you the double.
Let's remember:
The four gospels evoke this prophecy of Zechariah. Some have added extra details to it and some have even reduced its length. Scholars agree that the prophecy of Christ's entry into Jerusalem was partially fulfilled in the past, but it will not be fulfilled in its true character and full extent until a future day. Only then can Jerusalem, delivered from the yoke of the oppressor, be able to rejoice. At least we can be sure that if we welcome Jesus as King of our life, he will bring the gladness and joy that we sorely lack. It will be a real joy, an ineffable joy that even the cares of this world will never be able to conceal. If our heart welcomes Jesus as our King, we will undergo a global and integral transformation. We will let ourselves be led by this King and do his will. We will follow him closely to the cross without denying him and without hesitation. The Jesus who returns as King to our families, to our community churches, is a just, humble and victorious King. By receiving him as King, we will inherit his justice, his humility and he will make us victorious. He will install us on a pedestal to make us enjoy his notoriety because he will dominate from one end to the other. Excellent Thursday. Amen
