Theme : " How long will you be steeping on both sides?" " Text : 1 Kings 18: 14-21
14. And now you say: Go, say to your master: Here is Elijah! He will kill me. 15. But Elijah said, Living is the LORD of hosts, whose servant I am; today I will appear before Ahab. 16. Obadiah, having gone to meet Ahab, informed him of this. And Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17. No sooner did Ahab see Elijah when he said to him, Are you causing trouble in Israel? 18. Elijah answered, I do not trouble Israel; on the contrary, it is you and your father's house, since you forsook the commandments of the Lord and went after the Baals. 19. Now bring all Israel together to me in mount Carmel, and also the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Astarte, who are eating at Jezebel's table. 20. Ahab sent messengers to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets to Mount Carmel. 21. Then Elijah came near to all the people, and said, How long wilt you stumble on both sides? If the Lord is God, go after him; if it's Baal, go after him! The people did not answer him.
Let us remember :
The people of Israel had behaved badly. His king Achab and his father's house had forsaken God and his commandments. Like this, they perverted the people by leading them away from the way of the Lord God towards worshiping foreign gods. It is true, some of the people were wrong with the Jehovah God of their ancestors; others devoted themselves to Baal and Astarte: divinities forbidden by the Eternal. The people wavered and lacked stability in the Lord. Elijah asked a question that remains relevant as it concerns us too: How long will you be on both sides? When will we stop following the gods forbidden by the Lord? What are we looking for that is not found in Yahweh? May each return from his evil ways and follow the true Creator God of heaven and earth. Excellent Monday. Amen Alain Louz.-
