Theme : “ He Ascended to Heaven ”
Text : Luke 24:50-51
50. He led them as far as Bethany, and having raised his hands, he blessed them. 51. While he blessed them, he parted from them, and was taken up into heaven.
Let's remember:
Jesus ascended to heaven after blessing his disciples. This text marks the end of the earthly physical ministry of Jesus Christ and the beginning of the mission of the disciples. It is also the beginning of the Church. Elijah ascending to heaven had left his mantle (power) to Elisha; Jesus, meanwhile, left all the blessing (to build the Church, to bless, to heal, to save, to teach…). It could not be otherwise; for for the mission to be successful after his ascension, Jesus would have to bless the disciples who would ensure the succession. The portion received by the disciples was not double but not quantifiable because it is the Holy Spirit, a third personality contained in God. Jesus didn't want to go up to heaven in a public place to put on a show; he preferred to do it in Bethany, a place that is very symbolic and rich in meaning. It is in this country that Jesus began his ministry (Matthew 4:12) and it is also there that he ended it. It was again this region that he had fixed to meet his disciples, after the resurrection, saying: “…go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee: that is where they will see me”. (Matthew 28:10). Excellent Sunday. Amen Alain Louz.-
