Theme: “Growing in Faith”
Text: Genesis 21:1-7
1. The LORD remembered what he had spoken to Sarah, and the LORD fulfilled for Sarah what he had promised. 2. Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him. 3. Abraham named his son Isaac, whom Sarah bore him. 4. Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born. 6. And Sarah said, God has made me a laughing matter; whoever finds out will laugh at me. 7. She added: Who would have said to Abraham: Sarah will nurse children? However, I bore him a son in his old age.
Let's remember:
These 7 verses describing this part of the lives of Sarah and Abraham do not speak of any action of faith. Rather, we see the impact of faith. The faith that was manifested in the past finds results here. It is the season of harvest, the season of fulfillment, the season of joy. Let's say that Abraham had a firm faith but he did not imagine that God's promises would be fulfilled when he was one hundred (100) years old. At this age, we normally no longer think about having children. However, it is the age determined by God to gladden the hearts of his servant Abraham and Sarah his wife. It's so unreal that Sara keeps laughing about it and telling herself that the whole world will laugh about it again and again. Our impatient generation cannot wait for a promise from God that lasts a few months. We move here and there for want of faith. Let us know that our God is a God full of love, a God faithful to his promises, a God who takes action by coming to fulfill everything he had promised. He comes to demolish the laws of nature to establish the divine principles which bring life where procreation was impossible. The Lord God rides on his glory by spreading his grace within the house of Abraham. He does not let anyone intervene in this sequence, except Abraham who comes to give the name to his newborn Isaac, then circumcise him. When our faith has grown, the Lord God rewards it in every way; fulfilling all the promises made in a former life. Let us grow in faith and we will have the joy of laughing while savoring our blessings. Have a great Saturday. Amen
