Theme: “Growing in Faith”
Text: Genesis 18:1-8
1. The LORD appeared to him among the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. 2. And he lifted up his eyes, and looked: and, behold, three men were standing by him. When he saw them, he ran to meet them from the entrance of his tent and bowed down to the ground. 3. And he said, Lord, if I have found grace in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant. 4. Allow a little water to be brought to wash your feet; and rest under this tree. 5. I will go and take a piece of bread, to strengthen your heart; after which, you will continue your journey; for this is why you pass by your servant. They answered: Do as you have said. 6. Abraham went quickly into his tent to Sarah, and said, Quickly, three measures of fine flour, knead it, and make cakes. 7. And Abraham ran to his flock, and took a tender and good calf, and gave it to a servant, who hastened to prepare it. 8. He took more cream and milk from the calf that had been prepared, and set it before them. He himself stood beside them, under the tree. And they ate.
Let's remember:
Let us note that the generosity of Abraham is that which a person who grows in faith must demonstrate. Besides generosity, there is hospitality which is one of the characteristics of a spiritually mature person. Those who grow in faith must be sensitive to everything that can help them keep their faith at a high level. There is also the readiness to quickly offer assistance with supplication in humility and respect. Let us also note the notion of sacrifice and the involvement of his family and even his servants. They get them involved so that things get done quickly and well. The care we take for our neighbor is a sign of our age in faith. Anyone who wants to please God must also be involved in charity towards their neighbor. The Epistle to the Hebrews teaches us this in its chapter 13: "1. Persevere in brotherly love. 2. Do not forget hospitality; for, in exercising it, some have lodged angels, without know.¨ This is exactly the practical case of someone who exercises hospitality; as a result, he lodged and fed angels of God. Some angelic exegetes say that these three men were the Eternal God and two angels. Others speak of God in his trinity. Moreover the first verse says that it was the Eternal God. Abraham manifests his faith in the Eternal and speaks to him in the singular (verse 3) then in the plural the following verse when it's all three. A person who grows in faith knows how to spot the right opportunities to extract a blessing when no one is looking. Their faith points them to God in all His forms. Have a great Thursday. Amen
