Theme: “Growing in Faith”
Text: Genesis 17:15-21
15. God said to Abraham, You shall no longer call Sarai your wife Sarai; but her name will be Sarah. 16. I will bless her, and I will give you a son by her; I will bless it, and it will become nations; kings of peoples will come from her. 17. Abraham fell on his face; he laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a son be born to a man a hundred years old? and would Sarah, being ninety years old, bear children? 18. And Abraham said to God: Oh! may Ishmael live before your face! 19. God said: Sarah your wife will surely bear you a son; and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. 20. Concerning Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I will bless him, and make him fruitful, and multiply him exceedingly; he will beget twelve princes, and I will make of him a great nation. 21. I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.
Let's remember:
Abram and Sarai, so advanced in age that scientifically and naturally they were not capable of procreation. The laws of nature put limits on our heads to the point of doubting the Word of God. We forget that what exists was created by the Word of God. This same Word is enough to modify their content or their functioning. The Creator is the only one who can rebuild his creation. It is God who can renew dead cells and return hormones to their former functioning. Abram, who loved God, went through a brief moment of vacillation until the Lord God gave him exact details of the season in which Isaac would be born. The Lord had already seen the disturbance in the spirit of his son Abram and reassured him early on before he faltered in his faith. It does not happen to everyone to receive such encouragement directly from God and in person. Often it is through signs, preaching messages, prophetic declarations or other revealed words of faith. So let us be attentive when God speaks to us sometimes in one way, sometimes in another. Let us not remain in doubt, questioning or uncertainty. Let us quickly get out of this attitude so as not to sadden the heart of God. Let's take the trouble to project ourselves into God's promise and begin to live it before it comes true. This is growing in faith. Even one son can become a great nation like the stars of the sky. Have a great Wednesday. Amen
