Theme: "Greed and its consequences in the life of a citizen" Text: Colossians 3:5
5. Put therefore to death the members which are on the earth, fornication, impurity, passions, evil desires, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Let's remember:
We are asked to put to death the members who are on the earth. In fact we must put out of our lives fornication, impurity, passions, evil desires, greed and all other forms of idolatry. This list is not exhaustive. As long as these sins are a part of our lives, they will remain part of our body just like the feet, the arms... Greed will become a part of our body as long as we continue to practice it. Those who look at us see our feet or our head but they also see our greed. In some places, when we arrive, people will say: "Here is this greedy one who will make us uncomfortable". And we will lose a lot of good people who are meant to be in our lives. In the same vein, we must separate ourselves from greedy people capable of dragging us down their evil ways to make us greedy. We know that it is bad company that corrupts good morals. So let's kill our greedy desires; put to death our greedy bad companies. There is no question of going to physically kill people under the pretext of wanting to flee from greed. Put to death the members means: to give up this bad life, to leave or leave the old ways, to silence the flesh and its desires, to renounce all these things mentioned. Galatians 5:24. "Those who belong to Jesus Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit". When we practice greed, instead of killing our members, it is Jesus whom we crucify and kill again. Rather, let us crucify our flesh and its lustful desires that lead to greed.
