Theme: "God's Purposes for the Welfare of His People" Text: Amos 9:13-15
13. Behold, the days are coming, saith the LORD, When the plowman shall follow the reaper, And the treader of grapes he that sows seed, When new wine shall stream down from the mountains And flow down from all the hills. 14. I will bring back the captives of my people Israel; They will build ruined cities and inhabit them, they will plant vineyards and drink their wine, they will plant gardens and eat their fruit. 15. I will plant them in their land, and they shall no more be uprooted from the land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.
Let's remember:
Our God is a God full of goodness. His love is stronger than his anger. The plans he foresees for his people are the expression of this immense love. At the beginning of this chapter 9, God strikes and punishes, he destroys his people because of their infidelity. He sends him into captivity and from captivity he carries out his punishment. But after a while his anger subsides, his love takes precedence over correction and punishment. His heart vibrates so much with love that he cannot leave us on the side of the road. This is how he plans the restoration and redemption of the peoples and their cities. On old ruins, God designs to build new lives based on the cornerstone of Jesus Christ. Nothing can compel our God to dwell in wrath. His love and his glory last forever. The designs of God for his people are innumerable, such as: to put an end to our deportation, to abolish our captivity, to procure new lands to plant, sow and reap marvelous fruits which will rejoice our hearts. The prophet Joel had already spoken of it in chapter 2:24 “The floors will be full of wheat, and the vats will overflow with new wine and oil”. Later in chapter 3:18 he adds: “The mountains will flow with new wine, and the hills will flow with milk, and all the streams of Judah will flow with water”. We can therefore conclude that God makes his justice prevail to fulfill his promises. Excellent Monday and happy end of July. Amen Alain Louz.-
