Theme: "God's love and forgiveness."
Text: Numbers 14:18-20
18. The LORD is slow to anger and rich in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but he will not hold the guilty innocent, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation. 19. Forgive the iniquity of this people, according to the greatness of your mercy, as you have forgiven this people from Egypt even until now. 20. And the LORD said, I forgive, as you requested.
Let us remember:
God's love always bends before a repentant heart. God's mercy cannot resist seeing his children suffer because of their sins. To facilitate access to forgiveness even when the guilty person does not realize it, the Holy Spirit (God Himself) prays for each sinner with inexpressible groanings. Sometimes, we do not know how to pray according to the will of God, the Spirit of God helps us to pray. The weight of God's love and His mercy leans more towards forgiveness than towards anger. Thus, He is slow to anger and abounding in kindness. It has been so for ages. God forgives iniquity and rebellion; according to the greatness of His mercy, as He forgave Israel from Egypt. He does even better, He justifies us as if we had never sinned. This does not make Him a lax or negligent God. Nor is He tolerant of sin. However, God does not hold the guilty innocent, and He punishes the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation. The verses made available to us are taken from the prayer of supplication made by Moses when the Lord wanted to destroy the people of Israel in the desert after the exodus from Egypt. Moses was reminding God of the way in which He revealed Himself to him. He was describing the nature of God to God. It was so that God would manifest His mercy, His grace and His forgiveness. Excellent Saturday. Amen
