Theme: "God's love and forgiveness."

Text: 1 John 4:9-10

9. In this was manifested God's love toward us, because God sent his only Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10. And this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Let us remember:

No one has ever loved God first. He loved us with a love that is beyond compare. He resolved to save the world through the sacrifice of his only Son. Jesus is the perfect sacrifice that was made once and for all. His sacrifice restores all of humanity that had been wallowing in sin since Adam and Eve. Jesus came into this world knowing that he was dying for the sin he never committed. However, he bore the burden of our sin. We are the ones who walked in the mud, but he was the one who got dirty. He suffered the punishment for the sin he did not commit. By coming into this world, Jesus was already full of love for us. He exchanged our death for his life. By dying on the cross, he transferred his life to us. We live because Jesus died and rose again. To cap it all, he proclaimed our forgiveness. From now on, there is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus because they have been justified by him. What Jesus did is called martyrdom. He is the first commando in history, having accomplished his mission without his executioner understanding the outcome. He gave his life to take it up again later. God sent his only Son to die in the world, so that we might live through him. Through his death, we have life. Because God loves us, he sent his Son as an expiatory victim to deliver us from our sins. To atone is to repair a fault by undergoing a painful sanction as a guilty person. I am the guilty one but it is Jesus the expiatory victim, who undergoes the sanction. This is the greatest proof of love. Excellent Tuesday. Amen
