Fighting corruption for sustainable development

Sunday June 18, 2023

Theme: "Fighting corruption for sustainable development" Text: Acts 8:18-24

18. When Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given by the laying on of hands of the apostles, he offered them money, 19. saying, Grant me also this power, that whoever I lay hands on receive the Holy Spirit. 20. But Peter said to him, Let your money perish with you, since you believed that the gift of God was purchased with money! 21. You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. 22. Repent therefore of your wickedness, and pray to the Lord that the thought of your heart be forgiven you, if it be possible; 23. for I see that you are in a bitter gall and in bonds of iniquity. 24. Simon replied, Pray yourselves to the Lord for me, so that nothing of what you have said will happen to me.

Let's remember:

Unfortunately, many people make donations to curry favor with recipients. There are those who put their wealth at the disposal of others just to gain the upper hand; in order to subjugate them. Others target certain positions and fight to get them even though it costs them a lot of money to bribe the decision-makers. The other side, there are those who corrupt pastors and other prophets so that we do not preach on their cute sins. On the contrary, there appeared "servants of God" who ask the people for money before praying for them. They categorize the prayers by amount of money: prayers of $100, other prayers of $200, others of $500 and even $1000 and so on. Curiously the faithful come running to pay the prayers. My question: who does the miracle: God or the pastor? Who takes the money, God or the pastor? Also, many servants of God prefer to visit or pray in the homes of rich men knowing that they will have the money as a reward. Another observation, the authorities of our congregations are only made up of people with any influence (economic, financial, political, social, spiritual, etc.). It is rare to see a needy or a faithful of lower class leading an instance. Corruption doesn't just happen with money. There are some who impose themselves by their charismatic influence, by their professional experience, by their ruse of language, by influence peddling, by imposture, by all kinds of lies. There are others who have lobbies, networks that traffic in positions of responsibility. As long as these phenomena exist, we will pass without experiencing sustainable development. Sustainable development depends on our initiatives that promote the collective good and social stability. Excellent Sunday. Amen Alain Louz.-
