Theme: "Fighting corruption for sustainable development" Text: Amos 2:6-13
6. Thus says the LORD: Because of the three crimes of Israel, Even of four, I do not revoke my judgment, Because they have sold the righteous for silver, And the poor for a pair of shoes. . 7. They yearn to see the dust of the earth on the heads of the wretched, And they violate the rights of the wretched. Son and father go to the same daughter, To profane my holy name. 8. They lie down at every altar on pledged garments, and they drink in the house of their gods the wine of those whom they condemn. 9. And yet I destroyed before them the Amorites, Whose height was equal to that of the cedars, And whose strength that of the oaks; I have destroyed their fruits above, And their roots below. 10. And yet I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and led you forty years in the wilderness, to bring you in possession of the land of the Amorites. 11. I have raised up prophets among your sons, and Nazarenes among your young men. Is it not so, children of Israel? says the LORD... 12. And you made the Nazarenes drink wine! And to the prophets you gave this order: Do not prophesy! 13. Behold, I will crush you, As a chariot laden with sheaves treads the earth.
Let's remember:
When a person's judgment is impaired, we are entitled to say that the person is corrupt. Depravity is also part of the characteristics of corruption. So are bad concessions and favoritism. Corruption is not just about finances or the awarding of contracts. A corrupt person is a person who holds authority and a form of power (responsibility) and who gave in to the pressure of gifts, lobbyists… then was bought off. But God does not revoke his judgment as a corrupt judge would. Corrupt peoples are those who sold the righteous for money, and the poor for a pair of shoes. They aspire to see the dust of the earth on the heads of the wretched, and they violate the rights of the unfortunate. The son and the father go to the same daughter, in order to profane the holy name of Yahweh. They stretch themselves near each altar on clothes taken in pledge, they drink in the house of their gods the wine of those whom they condemn. God may do exploits in their midst, but their judgment remains impaired and their discernment extinguished. When God raises up prophets in the midst of corrupt people, they fight to corrupt, subjugate and enslave them. There are those who give alcoholic beverages to those they want to corrupt in order to obtain their favors under the influence of drink. Sustainable development does not tolerate corruption. It cannot take shape where corruption is in full swing. Let's get rid of corruption and work for sustainable development. Excellent Wednesday. Amen Alain Louz.-
