Theme: “Do your job well because your remuneration depends on it” Text: 2 Thessalonians 3:7-10
7. You yourselves know how to imitate us, for we have not lived among you in disorder. 8. We did not eat anyone's bread freely; but, in labor and in pain, we have been at work night and day, so as not to be a burden to any of you. 9. It is not that we did not have the right, but we wanted to give you in ourselves a model to imitate. 10. For when we were with you, we said to you expressly: If anyone does not want to work, let him not eat either.
Let's remember:
It is through work that we can break away from begging. When work provides remuneration, the worker can take care of himself. There are certain times in life when the government and sometimes charities can support a person's urgent needs, but this must be for a short period of time. It is not possible to live at the expense of social welfare all the time except in cases of proven disability. It is also certain that work is still not easy to find or keep and especially if we have to wait for the one we love, it may or may not happen. We can first make do with what is available; time to continue looking for the one of our dreams. This means that we must keep ourselves busy by doing a professional activity in order to meet our needs. This autonomy would prevent us from leading a life of dependence on others, a life of leech. The more we depend on others, the more we will lose our autonomy because the hand that gives is always above the one that receives. We disapprove of habits that consist of minimizing the work of others because popular wisdom teaches us that: "There is no such thing as a stupid job, there are only stupid people." This quote says it all about those who denigrate the professional activities of others that they find demeaning or ridiculous. Our hands must carry out some activity capable of making us live. We have the right to share or receive what is given to us; but let's not live on alms, it's a kind of fraud if we are in good health. Have a great Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
