Theme: “Cultivating the land means participating in the restoration of creation”
Text: 2 Samuel 9:10
10. Thou shalt cultivate the land for him, thou, thy sons, and thy servants, and shalt reap the crops, that thy master's son may have bread to eat; and Mephibosheth, your master's son, will always eat at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
Let's remember:
Cultivating the land means participating in the restoration of creation. This is the only food source that King David indicated to Ziba to feed the family of his master Mephibosheth, even though the latter always ate at the king's table. The fact remains that the rest of his family fed on agricultural products from the plantations cultivated by Tsiba. Over several generations and always, families have relied on agriculture for their livelihood. The whole world gets its supplies from agricultural products. King David found this order of things and left it unchanged. Rural populations produce the foodstuffs that supply large urban cities. Even today, the products of the earth cross borders and continents to feed millions of lives. David could have indicated other food sources to Tsiba, such as fishing. But he found it more stable to talk to him about cultivating the land. God gave the earth to the world to be its nourishment. Let us value the earth and protect it at the same time so that it continues to nourish us without deteriorating. In the same way that the earth supports humanity, let us also give it a better life. Have a great Thursday. Amen
