Theme: “Cultivating the earth is participating in the restoration of creation”
Text: Luke 8:4-8
4. A large crowd having gathered, and people having come to him from various cities, he spoke this parable: 5. A sower went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some of the seed fell by the wayside and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air ate it. 6. Other seed fell on rock; when it sprang up, it withered, because it had no moisture. 7. Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns grew up with it and choked it. 8. Other seed fell on good soil; when it sprang up, it yielded fruit a hundredfold. After having spoken thus, Jesus said in a loud voice: He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
Let us remember:
Cultivating the earth is working (the earth) to make it produce plants useful to human needs. It is clearing, plowing; it is the domain of agriculture, cultivation. Cultivating the earth improves the texture of the soil and breaks down the crusty exterior, which facilitates the penetration of water and air deep into the roots of the plants. By working the earth, we participate in the maintenance, restoration and preservation of creation. We must know that it is the earth that hosts us, so we have a duty to maintain it so that it is better. If we destroy it, we will enter a cycle of misfortune that would decimate the entire creation. If the earth is rocky, it will not be able to give us good harvests. If we plant seeds on thorny soil, the cuttings will not develop, due to lack of living space. If the soil is poorly maintained, famine will set in among us. Synthetic foods are not a safe solution for the survival of humanity. We must instead prioritize organic farming, but that requires a healthy soil. Excellent Monday. Amen
