Theme: “Communion is also the sharing of goods“
Text: 2 Corinthians 9:3-6
3. I send the brethren, so that the praise we have made of you will not be reduced to nothing on this point, and that you will be ready, as I have said. 4. I would not want, if the Macedonians come with me and do not find you ready, that this assurance should turn to our confusion, not to say yours. 5. I have therefore found it necessary to invite the brethren to come to you beforehand, and attend to your bounty already promised, so that it may be ready, so as to be a bounty, and not an act of 'avarice. 6. Know that he who sows little will reap little, and he who sows abundantly will reap abundantly.
Let's remember:
Paul was urging the people of Achaia to get back to their senses and quickly prepare to deliver aid to the Saints. Indeed, several months before, Paul boasted with the Macedonians, by declaring that the goods of Achaia had been gathered and ready since last year; and their zeal had stimulated the greatest number. But later, he comes to find that none of this was true. It was then that he urged them to pull themselves together and quickly send the gifts to the saints. Paul wanted this people to keep their communion, their spirit of liberality which had always characterized them. Everyone can go through moments of release; but let us not remain in this fleeting attitude. Let's get up, resume good habits and maintain them because it is a grace to be charitable. James 4:17. “He who knows how to do good, and does not do it, commits a sin”. Especially when we make a promise, do we go to great lengths to fulfill it in order to maintain both credibility and fidelity. By sharing with our neighbour, we sow in the field of God. If we share at all times, it is because we sow abundantly. But he who sows abundantly lives in communion. Excellent Friday and good start into the weekend. Amen Alain Louz.-
