Theme: “Being in Abundant Love” Text: Luke 7:40-48
40. Jesus answered and said to him, Simon, I have something to tell you. "Master, speak," he replied. 41. A creditor had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42. Since they had no money to pay, he forgave them both of their debt. Which will love it the most? 43. Simon answered: The one, I think, to whom he gave the most. Jesus said to him: You have judged well. 44. Then, turning to the woman, he said to Simon: Do you see this woman? I came into your house, and you gave me no water to wash my feet; but she, she wetted them with her tears, and wiped them away with her hair. 45. You gave me no kiss; but she, since I came in, she hasn't stopped kissing my feet. 46. You poured no oil on my head; but she, she poured perfume on my feet. 47. Wherefore, I say unto thee, her many sins were forgiven: for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little loves little. 48. And he said to the woman, Your sins are forgiven.
Let's remember:
Do not pass judgment on the actions of our neighbour. There are those who have received the grace to be forgiven by God while humans still see their sins. Our acts of obedience and love are a foundation for forgiveness and reconciliation with God. Loving God does not consist in moving heaven and earth to attract the gaze of humans. But certain small gestures, which sometimes seem negligible to humans, can bring about reconciliation with God; especially when they are posed with skill, with a sincere and overflowing humility. Note that here the abundant love consisted in seeking the grace of God by a kind of exposition of one's life followed by adoration. Yes, to shed tears, before the Lord, as a sign of bitterness or regret for sins committed, is the humility of a soul seeking repentance and salvation. It is also worship because she pours out her soul before her Lord. She adores God by her perfume which is very expensive. She gets her hair dirty in order to wash the Master's feet. When a soul expends its abundant love for the benefit of the Lord Jesus, there follows a taking charge of it by the King of glory. In such a situation, Jesus declares the forgiveness of sins and frees said soul from the grip of the devil. When our abundant love strikes a chord with God, He does not hesitate to sanctify us. Excellent Thursday. Amen Alain Louz.-
