Theme: “Behold, your King comes”
Text: Psalms 89:12-19
12. (89:13) You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon rejoice at your name. 13. (89:14) Your arm is mighty, Your hand strong, your right hand high. 14. (89:15) Justice and righteousness are the foundation of your throne. Goodness and faithfulness are before you. 15. (89:16) Blessed is the people who know the sound of the trumpet; He walks in the light of your face, O LORD! 16. (89:17) He continually rejoices in your name, and glory in your righteousness. 17. (89:18) For you are the glory of his power; It is your favor that raises our strength. 18. (89:19) For the LORD is our shield, the Holy One of Israel is our king. 19. (89:20) Then you spoke in a vision to your beloved, And you said: I have helped a hero, I have raised a young man from among the people;
Let's remember:
In other versions, verse 20b says this: “I have placed help on a hero, I have raised up one chosen from among the people”. Evangelical Christian communities read this messianic psalm on the day of the Nativity. We are presented with a God who marks his greatness by making a promise because he has the ability to fulfill it. His dominion extends everywhere in all directions as symbolized by Hermon in the east and Tabor in the west on the borders of the tribe of Zebulun and Naphtali. Our King comes to remove injustices and human ineptitudes in order to establish justice and righteousness. Goodness and faithfulness characterize him. This psalm gives us a brilliant description of the harmony of mercy and faithfulness. John confirms this when he says, “He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins” (1 John 1:9). Some connect this psalm to Nathan's prophecy regarding David, while associating David with a type of Christ. So happy are the people who know the sound of the trumpet; the people who walk in the light of the face of the Lord. The trumpet of the coming of the King now sounds to every alert person. Jesus is also our trumpet because his Word sends a clear signal and not a confused signal so that the people prepare for the arrival of the King. Excellent Friday and good start to the weekend.
