Theme: “Become aware of your identity in Christ”
Text: Romans 6:5-6
5. For if we have become one plant with him through conformity to his death, we also will be through conformity to his resurrection, 6. knowing that our old self was crucified with him, that the body of the sin was destroyed, so that we were no longer slaves to sin;
Let's remember:
The death of Jesus gave us the grace to die to sin in order to be resurrected with Him to sanctification. Our old self was buried and the resurrected body hates sin. Sin loses its authority over us. According to our new post-resurrection identity, we have become one plant with Jesus. He is holy, so let us be holy. He has authority over sin, we also have authority over sin. He condemns sin, we also condemn sin, do not justify sin. Jesus hates sin, we hate sin too. Our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed; so that we are no longer slaves to sin. If we have accepted Jesus into our life, then we must yield control of it to Him. He must take full control of it. Now, when it is Jesus who guides our life, he destroys our worldly appetites, he keeps us away from tortuous ways, he pushes us towards sanctification, he gives us the thirst to drink and eat his Word. It opens us to eternal life. We ultimately become obedient to His Word, we become like Him. In reality, when Jesus takes control of our lives, he destroys our old self. So we will no longer be slaves to sin. This is the identity of those who agree to die and rise again with Jesus. Have a great Saturday. Amen.
