Theme: “Appearances of Jesus after his resurrection“
Text: Matthew 28:8-10
8. They departed quickly from the sepulchre, with fear and with great joy, and ran to bring the news to the disciples. 9. And behold, Jesus came to meet them, and said, Hail. They approached to seize his feet, and they prostrated themselves before him. 10. Then Jesus said unto them, Fear not; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; that is where they will see me.
Let's remember:
This is not a vision, even less a view of the mind or an imagination. Our risen Lord made several appearances before ascending to his Father and also ours. His language was made up of speech and not of mimic signs. It is a simple but complete message, precise and without parables. It is indeed a face-to-face appearance without fog. Marie de Magdala and the other Marie saw and heard him. The Risen One is visible and audible. These two women had a great privilege that no male had. They first saw the angel of the resurrection in the sepulchre, then they come across the glorified risen Christ. Better still, Christ repeats to them the same words spoken a few minutes earlier by the angel. If this election, made by God to the two women, was not an excellent grace, if it is not enough for the women to preach, then there is no need to hope to understand the spiritual aspect of the resurrection of Jesus. This apparition of Jesus is both a challenge to death, which could not hold him, but also to the tomb, which could not contain him. Most importantly, the risen Jesus comes with a message of trust and hope. He greets them and sends them to preach the gospel of the resurrection. At the same time, he reassures them by asking them not to be afraid. Christ is risen, our fears are over. Excellent Tuesday. Amen Alain Louz.-
