Theme: “Age: a factor of engagement or disengagement in the work of God” Text: 2 Timothy 2:22-26
22. Flee the passions of youth, and seek justice, faith, charity, peace, with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart. 23. Put off foolish and pointless discussions, knowing that they breed quarrels. 24. Now a servant of the Lord must not quarrel; he must, on the contrary, have condescension for all, be fit to teach, endowed with patience; 25. He must straighten up adversaries gently, in the hope that God will give them repentance to come to the knowledge of the truth, 26. and that, having come to their senses, they will free themselves from the snares of the devil, who has seized them to submit them to his will.
Let's remember:
In psychology, passion is defined as a powerful inclination towards an activity that a person enjoys and in which he invests time and energy. We speak of the passions when it is an intense and irrational affective state that dominates someone. The dictionary speaks of a very strong affective movement that seizes someone by making them take sides violently for or against something, someone. The cause, at the origin of the passions, is linked to our senses and our emotions, therefore to our body. A passion involves both body and soul, hence its power and ability to motivate us to action. Admiration, love, hatred, desire, joy, sadness are recognized as primitive passions. Natural life is calibrated such that our flesh pushes us to follow fashion, to be on the networks, to imitate the stars, to seek glory, to have sex outside marriage, to covet, to do what our heart desires… Several passions of youth lead to juvenile delinquency; although old people who lack control fall into senile delinquency. If we erect the passions as a way of life in our youth, the whip of God or of nature will overtake us. Let us rather seek justice, faith, charity, peace, with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart. Let us reject foolish and useless discussions, knowing that they give rise to quarrels. Young people have a marked interest in useless discussions. This can delay or lessen our commitment to the work of God. The dangerous passions are not only those of youth. All passions that bring an imbalance in our life are to be avoided. Let's examine the good passions capable of embellishing our lives whatever the fields but also the ages. Excellent Sunday.
